Jabeur Hoping to Turn the Season Around

By any estimate, a win-loss record of 11-6 isn’t too bad at the highest level but when you are a world number two, you would have a different set of expectations from your own self. That’s what has been the case with Jabeur this year as a mix of poor form and an injury has bogged her performances down.

A second round loss at the Australian Open was the first surprise of the year for Jabeur, who went on win just one match in all at the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open.

Jabeur looked to have turned things around in Charleston when she went on to win her first title of the season but an mid-match injury in the semifinal of the Stuttgart Open meant she was left with a lot more to do to resume her run.

She missed the Madrid Open and facing Paula Badosa in the second round of the Italian Open, Jabeur lost 6-1, 6-4 in her match on return. Can she turn things around here?

Bronzetti Coming off Rabat Sparkle

While Bronzetti was knocked out in the first round of both, the Madrid Open and Italian Open, she has managed to find herself a few wins in some of the other tournaments.

At Florence, in a WTA 125 tournament after the Italian Open, Bronzetti made it all the way to the semifinal.

This was followed by her appearance at the Rabat Open, where she defeated Rebecca Peterson, Tatjana Maria and Alycia Parks to make it to the semifinal. At the time of writing she was prepping for her semifinal against Sloane Stephens.

That being said, it’s one thing to find one’s rhythm against players ranked in and around 50th in the world and quite another to face up to the might of a top-10 player.

The only aspect that keeps Bronzetti in this contest is the rhythm she is in as opposed to Jabeur’s form.

Jabeur v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is 1/6 to win this, but it might not be that straightforward. We could see a third set in this but even if we don’t there could be two hard-fought sets here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 8/13
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
