Cori Gauff v Rebeka Masarova Head to Head

This will be their second meeting with the first having come earlier this year in the final of the Auckland Open. Gauff had won that to clinch her only singles title of the season.

Gauff 4-4 in Her Last Eight Matches

As far as the world number sixes go, Garcia’s performance this season could do with a bit of a boost. A 19-8 win-loss record reads quite well but when you think about it from the perspective of how she has won just five of her previous 10 matches, you know things have gone awry in recent times.

To add to that, it’s been worse on clay.

Featuring in three tournaments on this surface, the 2022 French Open finalist has won just three matches and lost in the very next match of those competitions.

Losses to Anastasia Potapova, Paula Badosa and even Marie Bouzkova will make things difficult for the American as more and more players realise the way to overcome her is using a power-packed game.

And with a lot of points on the line to defend following her showing in this tournament last year, Gauff will enter the 2023 French Open under some pressure.

Masarova Has a Solid Overall Clay Record

While Masarova was forced to feature in the qualifiers of the Italian Open and failed to make it to the main draw after that, it must be quickly added she has had a reasonably sound game for clay.

Add all her wins and losses across all the levels of tennis and Masarova is 117-54 with three of her six lower-level titles having also come on clay.

Case in point was her showing at the Madrid Open. She got rid of Cristina Bucsa in the first round there but her bigger achievement came against Donna Vekic in the second round when she routed the Croat in straight sets despite starting out a 6/4 underdog.

She might be up against a top-10 player in this one but Masarova would reckon she has a chance. If not to win, then to make life on court difficult for her American opponent.

Gauff v Masarova Prediction and Tip

Gauff’s recent form does add a bit of a question-mark to her chances, but she should still make it through here. Might even do that in straight sets but we could see at least one of the sets going long.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first: 8/15
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match AND Gauff to win: 5/4
