Caroline Garcia v Xiyu Wang Head to Head
Garcia and Wang have never played each other before this.

Garcia Solid But Would Like to Do Better
On the one hand, Garcia would be reasonably satisfied to have maintained her spot in the top five of the WTA Rankings and gone nearly five months in the season with a 22-11 win-loss record.
On the other, she is yet to win a title after having pocketed four last season and her performance on clay has been modest, at best.
In the three tournaments on dirt – Stuttgart, Madrid and Rome – Garcia has won her openers but then lost the very next match. What would be particularly bothersome for Garcia is those defeats have come at the hands of the likes of Anastasia Potapova, Mayar Sherif (who was 13/5 to win that) and Camila Osorio (7/5).
And it’s these performances that will put a question-mark over Garcia’s chances at a Grand Slam where she hasn’t made past the fourth round since 2017.
Can she kick things off with a performance that makes a statement of some kind?

Wang Coming off Rome Fourth Round
After having made a poor start to the season in hardcourt competitions, Wang has done well to turn things around a tad on clay.
Wang, who had a 23-10 win-loss record on clay across different levels last year, took her form forward this season. It was at Madrid she finally got going with a win over Varvara Gracheva and then an upset victory over Bianca Andreescu.
In Rome, she won three matches to reach the round of 16 before it was fellow Chinese player Qinwen Zheng who put an end to her fairy tale. Still, it would have given her some confidence coming into the French Open, a tournament at which she has never won a round.
Can she can clinch her maiden win here despite taking on the world number five though? Seems slightly doubtful.
Garcia v Wang Prediction and Tip
Garcia hasn’t had the kind of form this year that she had in 2022 but she has still managed to maintain her ranking to a large extent. She can add a lot of points to her ranking tally too at this French Open having gotten knocked out in the second round here last season and we think she will do just that.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Garcia to win: 1/3
- Moderate Risk Tip: Garcia to win in straight sets: 1/1
