Yoshihito Nishioka v J.J. Wolf Head to Head
Yoshihito Nishoka leads 1-0, having defeated J.J. Wolf at the Columbus Challenger in 2022 in three sets.

Nishioka On Three-Match Losing Streak
Yoshihito Nishioka made a promising start to his 2023 campaign, reaching a semifinal in the opening week in Adelaide only losing to in-form Sebastian Korda after retiring hurt.
But he played a superb tournament at the Australian Open a few weeks later dispelling doubts about his fitness and taking full advantage of a soft draw to make the second week of the year’s first Major. However, he was annihilated by Karen Kahcahnov in the round of 16 losing 6-0 6-0 7-6.
Since leaving Melbourne it has all gone downhill for the Japanese lefty who has won two matches in eight tournaments on ATP and Challenger Tour.
Nishioka’s last win came at the Madrid Masters where he defeated Alex Molcan in three sets while the other came in Delray during the February indoor swing also in three sets against Oscar Otte.
Nishioka has made the second round of the French Open three times in six main draw appearances. And he enters the 2023 edition of the clay slam being seeded. So can he pick up his first win since Madrid?

Wolf Marks Improvement on Clay
J.J. Wolf like many of his American peers was a Challenger Tour campaigner but has risen through the ranks in the past 18 months.
In that timespan, Wolf reached his first ATP final in Napoli last autumn, cracked the world’s top 50, and has now established himself as a Tour regular.
Wolf took his level and career up a notch in 2023, making the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time at this year’s Australian Open in January.
The American then carried that momentum to the indoor hard-court season where he reached the Dallas semis, losing an absolute belter against John Isner.
Although his form was largely subpar in Indian Wells and Miami, Wolf saved his best tennis for clay, making a quarterfinal run on home turf in Houston and then shockingly pulling off two surprise runs in Rome and Geneva where he scored wins over Hubert Hurkacz in the former and Hugo Dellien in latter.
Nishioka v Wolf Prediction and Tip
I’m surprised to see the odds being almost at evens for both, but that probably has to do with the fact that Wolf hasn’t played in a main draw at the French Open before. But his form is encouraging coming to the tournament. Smart money should be on the American here.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Wolf to win: 5/6
