Marino in a Bleak Spell

32-year-old Canadian Rebecca Marino is starting in Paris with a year-to-date record of 10 wins and 11 losses. It has been a mediocre year for her – even more or so on clay. In her defence, however, she has played in just one clay tournament – Madrid Open.

That was last month when she had to settle for a round two exit at the hands of Elise Mertens. Before that, Marino played in Indian Wells and Miami – where, once again, she endured early exits.

Most of Rebecca’s year has gone by in such fashion; the only tournament where she won multiple matches was in Doha, where she won three qualifying matches before losing the main-draw opener to Daria Kasatkina.

Throughout her career, she has made it past round one in the Paris Slam just once. To add to that, she has only one WTA final to her name – 2011 U.S National Indoors.

Shnaider, Looking to Stake her Claim

19-year-old Russian is set to make her French Open main-draw debut on Monday. Her last major was the Aus Open, where, by her standards, she did a superb job of reaching round two (as a qualifier).

The youngster picked up the heat on clay, but she did stay away from participating in the big WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome.

Credit where it is due, in Charleston 500, she beat Alycia Parks and Veronika Kudermetova before losing to Paula Badosa in round three. Next was the ITF Charlottesville, where she was a quarterfinalist.

As a junior player, Shnaider won three Grand Slams in doubles – the most recent being the US Open 2022 with Lucie Havlickova. She later topped that with her first WTA 125 trophy – coming in Montevideo Open.

Marino v Shnaider Prediction and Tip

Shnaider may be inexperienced, but lucky for her, her opponent is struggling a lot with form and momentum. It is clear to see why bookmakers favour her to win this one.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Shnaider to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
