Jannik Sinner v Daniel Altmaier Head to Head

Sinner had won their only previous meeting that came at the 2022 US Open. It did turn out to be a five-setter though.

Sinner Routs Muller

There were a few question-marks about Sinner’s fitness having recently withdrawn from Barcelona Open but there were no such signs in his first round rout of Alexandre Muller.

Sinner was on court for a mere hour and 48 minutes for his 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 victory over his 101st-ranked opponent as he took a step closer to his fourth round appearance from the previous two seasons.

The eighth seed faced a mere two break-points in the entire match as his first serve stats showed a whopping 83% wins. He saved both those break-points and hit 30 winners in the encounter while at the same time broke his opponent six times.

This win follows a fourth round loss at the Italian Open for Sinner two weeks ago which had again raised questions if he could make himself a name in a best-of-five tournament on clay. The manner in which he dished out a loss to Muller, it seems like he could be a force.

Altmaier Sends Huesler Packing

While Altmaier was a favourite going into his opening round match against Marc-Andrea Huesler one thought there might have been some sort of a fight in the contest. As it turned out, Altmaier was on court for two hours and seven minutes and needed just three sets to pocket his second round berth.

Having made the fourth round at this tournament in 2020, Altmaier had already shown this season he is capable of a lot of quality on clay. A title win at the Sarasota Challenger was followed by a quarterfinal appearance at the Madrid Masters after having started off as a qualifier.

He then made it to the second round in Rome.

Here, Altmaier’s biggest strength was his serve as he went on to win 75% of all points on his own serve, even as he broke his opponent three times in the entire encounter to register a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win. He also hit 10 more winners than his opponent while having 21 less unforced errors to his name in the process.

Against Sinner, Altmaier might not have it easy but the form that he is in, we could see a bit of a fight.

Sinner v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

So Sinner to win but we cannot ignore Altmaier’s form here. Could translate in the form of at least one of the sets going deep.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Sinner to win AND Over 31.5 games in the match: 20/21
