Caroline Garcia v Anna Blinkova Head to Head

The tally stands at 1-1; they last met in the 2019 Roland Garros, where Blinkova carved a three-set upset to reach round three.

Garcia Survives a Major Scare

Caroline Garcia, seeded number five for her home Slam, battled past Xiyu Wang in the opener 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-4 in a little over two and a half hours. This kind of resistance was unexpected from Wang – who seemed to have caught Caro on a rough day.

Now, whether Garcia can shake this off and move past is anyone’s guess. If her recent form is any indication, it is likely going to be difficult.

In Madrid and Rome, the current World No. 5 was handed shocking losses by the likes of Mayar Sherif and Camila Osorio, respectively. Similarly, in Miami and Indian Wells, she fell to Sorana Cirstea in mid-rounds.

At the same time, Caroline has had her moments in 2023 – with two runner-up feats in WTA Lyon and Monterrey.

As for Garcia’s track record in Paris, she is just a one-time quarterfinalist – back in 2017. She did, however, win the doubles title twice – most recently in 2022.

Blinkova Beats Bonaventure

Anna Blinkova made quick work of Ysaline Bonaventure in the first round, beating the Belgian 6-2, 6-0.

The 24-year-old Russian is now looking to reach the third round in French Open once again – and the last time she did this was by beating Garcia herself.

In all fairness, she can do it again – especially considering her recent results. Blinkova was a finalist in the Strasbourg International – losing ultimately to Elina Svitolina. That was her first clay WTA final, and it could not have come at a better time.

Apart from that – and a semifinal showing in Hobart – Anna has spent the majority of the season settling for early exits. Her record is 18-14 at the moment, with a singles ranking of World No. 56.

Garcia v Blinkova Prediction and Tip

Garcia clearly starts as the favourite on paper – owing to her better everything. But we cannot ignore the fact that she has been vulnerable of late meanwhile, Blinkova is firing on all cylinders. This one can be tricky for Caro to navigate; an upset is on the card here.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Garcia to win: 4/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
