Peterson Flies Past Ferro
In a match that barely lasted an hour and a few minutes, Peterson had no problems shutting out Fiona Ferro to make it to the second round at the 2023 French Open.
Rather interestingly, Peterson had featured in just one clay court match this season before coming into the season’s second Grand Slam. It had come in Rabat and she had lost to Lucia Bronzetti in the very first round.
Which is why she was 4/6 to win this, not too short despite playing someone ranked 465th in the world.
Not that Peterson cared too much for the rankings as she came down heavily on Ferro, blasting 17 winners and dealing out just 12 unforced errors. It helped massively that her opponent had 34 of the latter to her name with Peterson winning 6-2, 6-0 in the end.
This would be the fourth time that Peterson will be playing in the second round in this tournament but will it become the first ever occasion on which she enters round three?

Wang in Shock Win over Bouzkova
It took her nearly two hours and by the end of that time, Wang had carved out a straight-set win in her first round match against Marie Bouzkova. And not too many had expected Wang to do that.
Starting out a whopping 14/5 underdog to win her opener, Wang clinched her maiden victory at the French Open with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory over Bouzkova. This followed a run of five successive defeats, making it an even more special win.
Wang was broken four times including when Bouzkova served for 5-3 in the first set and for a 5-2 lead in the second. Both times she rallied back with successive breaks to kick the can down the road and then managed to win the second set tie-breaker by racing away to a 4-0 lead.
She will look to double her win count against a player who has a similar rank as hers but it must be quickly added that Peterson has had a better overall clay court record than her 27-21.
Peterson v Wang Prediction and Tip
Peterson could hold a minor edge here with a likelihood of this going to a third set looking high.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Peterson to win: 8/11
