Andrea Petkovic v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head
This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.
An Uneventful Fortnight for Petkovic and Anisimova
The two players are heading into this fixture after a rather disappointing stint in the Indian Wells Open. Petkovic, who has been struggling with her form for quite some time now, lost her opening match in the Californian desert to Venus Williams 6-4, 0-6, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Anisimova had a comparatively better showing when she reached the second round there but ended up succumbing to Elise Mertens in straight sets.
Interestingly enough, neither of these two players opted to participate in the WTA 125K Series event that took place the following week in Guadalajara.
But their Overall Form Tells a Different Tale
Anisimova, who is just 17-years-old at the moment, has been pegged as one of the upcoming stars on the WTA Tour. While her rise hasn’t been as stunning as that of Andreescu and Osaka, she is certainly on her way there.
For instance, earlier this season, she reached the quarterfinal in Auckland and she followed that with her career-best run in the Australian Open. Even though she lost in the fourth round there to Petra Kvitova, it wasn’t before defeating Lesia Tsurenko and Aryna Sabalenka. It was after these events that her form took a slight drop.
As for her run last season, Anisimova was the runner-up in the Japan Women’s Open. She also reached the third round in Cincinnati. At the same time, she had taken a brief hiatus from the tour on account of an injury in the right foot.
On the other hand, Petkovic struggled considerably to move past the early rounds this season. In Brisbane, the German barely made it past the qualifiers while in Melbourne, she lost her opening match to Irina-Camelia Begu. It was a similar tale for her in St. Petersburg as well, as she lost in the qualifiers once again.
The only time Petkovic won a main draw fixture was in Budapest, where she reached as far as the second round.
Andrea Petkovic v Amanda Anisimova Predictions & Tips
On one hand, Petkovic has a lot of experience but given her recent form, that may not be enough to take her through. Anisimova will start as the favourite here and this can very well turn out to be a three-set affair.
Tip: Anisimova to win: 4/11 (bet365)
