Sloane Stephens v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head
The two ladies have quite a bit of rivalry between them. It is a 3-2 advantage for Putintseva, with their last meeting taking place in the 2021 Australian Open. Interestingly, all five of their matches have gone to three sets.

Putintseva Beats Zheng
Yulia Putintseva passed a big test in round two in Paris when she beat the current World No. 19 Qinwen Zheng 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. The Kazakh fought valiantly for two and a half hours and made good use of a shoddy service game from the Chinese number one.
In the preceding round, she delivered a 7-5, 7-6(3) win over the 89th-ranked Maryna Zanevska.
The 28-year-old has some momentum to her game, having made it to the quarterfinal in Rabat last week. There, she was shocked by the 195th-ranked Julia Riera. That shocking loss against a lesser-known player on the tour obviously does not bode well for Putintseva’s prospects in the competition but as we know, anything can happen.
Most of Yulia’s season has gone by in early-round exits – sans the Rabat Open and WTA Hobart (quarterfinal run). She is now 15-13 in 2023.
All things considered, the current #58 is a two-time quarterfinalist in the Slam and her two sole WTA titles have also come on clay courts – which can perhaps help her against Stephens.

Stephens Fielding Momentum
Current world number 30, former #3 Sloane Stephens is seeking her glory days in Paris. It has been a while since she has enjoyed consistent success. Case in point, it was only in Abierto Zapopan 2022 that she won her first title in four years.
The American is now 15-11 this year and many of those wins have come only in the last few weeks. It started with a title run in Saint-Malo, which she later followed with a semifinal stint in Rabat. Between these events, however, Stephens did lose to Victoria Azarenka in Rome Open round two.
Sloane has some pedigree to seek inspiration from – she was the runner-up at Roland Garros in 2018 and later reached the quarterfinal twice – most recently last season.
So far this week, Stephens beat the likes of Karolina Pliskova and Varvara Gracheva in straight sets, dropping just 7 games.
Stephens v Putintseva Prediction and Tip
Stephens should be confident of her chances here. It may not be as easy as her last two games but she does have a solid pedigree to move past Putintseva.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Stephens to win: 1/3
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
