Potapova leads 1-0, beating Pavlyuchenkova last in the 2021 Istanbul Cup in three sets.

Pavlyuchenkova on a Roll

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova returned to the WTA Tour in 2023 after a long injury layoff that saw her play in only three tournaments in 2022.

The 31-year-old, who is understandably low on momentum, has done rather well to build some traction for Roland Garros. In the weeks leading to Paris, she reached round two in Madrid and Rome Open and the quarterfinal in Strasbourg International.

So far this week, Pavlyuchenkova has handled herself quite well. In the opener, she upset the Czech teenage sensation Linda Fruhvirtova 6-2, 6-2 and later, Liudmila Samsonova with 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.

The former World No. 11 was the runner-up in the French Open 2021 – her one and only Grand Slam final.

As for her prospects against Potapova, it is anyone’s guess at this point. Pavlyuchenkova is well-experienced with a solid pedigree, but her lack of form may prove troublesome.

Potapova Beats Sherif

Anastasia Potapova continued her run in Paris with a three-set win over Mayar Sherif. The 24th seed took the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to post her best results in the clay Slam.

Her record for the season is 22-11, with a current ranking of #25. All in all, it has been a decent year for the 22-year-old Potapova.

In February, she won her second WTA title – at the Linz Open Austria by beating Petra Martic in the final. She eventually followed it with a quarterfinal stint in Miami (beating Coco Gauff and Qinwen Zheng en route) and a semifinal show in Stuttgart (beating Caroline Garcia in the quarters).

Potapova also featured in the third round in Rome and Madrid.

Compared to Pavlyuchenkova, she may lack experience, but she has got momentum on her side to make up for it.

Pavlyuchenkova v Potapova Prediction and Tip
