Iga on a Roll
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is off to a good start in Paris, as she beat Cristina Bucsa and Claire Liu in the opening two rounds in straight sets. Coincidentally, it was the same score in the two matches – 6-4, 6-0.
Looking to win the Slam for the third time in four years, the 22-year-old Pole finds herself in a fairly more competitive field than last time around. Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina pack a definite threat – with Swiatek likely to meet the latter in the quarterfinal.
The same has been evident in the season, too – four of the rare six losses she has picked up (in contrast to 30 wins) have come at the hands of the two players.
However, Swiatek is playing truly in her element, and Roland Garros has been her strong suit. To make her case further, she was recently the finalist in Madrid, a quarterfinalist in Rome, and a champion in Stuttgart.

Wang Scripts Personal History
Cina’s Xinyu Wang is set to compete in her first third-round fixture in a Grand Slam. Before this, her best results were consecutive round-two stints in the Aus Open.
The 21-year-old, who is the current World No. 80, defeated the likes of Marie Bouzkova and Rebecca Peterson this week in straight sets – though two of those sets did go to a tiebreaker.
Those upped her record for the season to 16-14 and also made up a bit for her disastrous clay swing. Wang went without a win in four tournaments – Madrid Open, Reus Challenger, Italian Open, and Strasbourg International. She has been comparatively better on hard courts – having reached the semis in Hua Hin and third round in Indian Wells Open.
Swiatek v Wang Prediction and Tip
Swiatek should take this one in straight sets. Her opponent lacks momentum and seems to be uncomfortable on clay courts. Expect no surprises here.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Swiatek to win 2-0: 1/3
- Moderate Risk Tip: Wang handicap, +5.5 games: 5/6
