Peterson Reached Mexico Final

Peterson, after several seasons where her progress was blighted by a combination of ill-health and loss of form, enjoyed something of a career comeback in Merida earlier this year, reaching her first WTA final in more than three years, eventually losing to the Italian Camila Giorgi.

That same month she also reached the final of a Challenger event in the US, although again she finished on the losing side.

As a result of that run, the Swede was able to break back into the top 100 in the world, and her renaissance continued at Indian Wells where she not only came through qualifying, but went on to reach the fourth round before losing to Coco Gauff.

She only played a limited amount of clay court tennis, though, and her French Open campaign ended in the second round.

From there she played in a Challenger event in Croatia, again on clay, but withdrew from the event with a minor injury.

Not known as a grass court player, the best she has managed at Wimbledon are four second round appearances.

Krueger Has Not Won on Main Tour This Year

Teenager Krueger is close to her all-time career ranking, although she remains relatively green at senior WTA tour level, with most of her successes to date coming on the junior tours.

In doubles, she was beaten in a Challenger final in Mexico last October, and, she won an ITF tournament in Orlando in February.

This will be her fourth main draw appearance of the season so far.

She came through qualifying in Austin, only to lose to compatriot Caty McNally. It was a similar story in Indian Wells, Jil Teichmann knocking her out on that occasion.

Spared the rigours of qualifying in Miami thanks to a wildcard, another teenager, Erika Andreeva, ended her interest in the tournament.

Krueger has already played one grass court match this year – she was beaten in the first round of Surbiton last week by fellow American Sachia Vickery.

Peterson v Krueger Prediction and Tip

Although Peterson is not a natural grass court player, she is facing an opponent who has not won on the main WTA tour this year. That makes the Swede the favourite.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Peterson to win: 8/13
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
