Victoria Azarenka v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
The two ladies have met only once on the tour so far. That encounter took place in the 2018 Cincinnati Open and Garcia won that one comfortably in straight sets.
Garcia’s Disappointing Start to the Season
So far this season, the World No. 21 has failed to perform as per her standards. With a win-loss record of 5-6, Garcia hasn’t been as clinical as one would expect her to be.
She lost her opening match in the Indian Wells Open to Jennifer Brady a couple of weeks back. In fact, that was a repeat of her first-round defeat in Hua Hin earlier this season – a loss that came at the hands of Brady herself.
The only time Garcia has looked truly brilliant was in the Fed Cup, when she defeated Alison Van Uytvanck and Elise Mertens back to back to take France through to the next round. Apart from that, the Frenchwoman also had a decent run in the Australian Open where she reached the third round.
Garcia had a breakthrough in 2017 when she won the Wuhan Open and China Open. Last year, however, the best she could do was take the title in Tianjin.
Azarenka Starts with a Tough Win
Three-time Miami Open champion Victoria Azarenka started her run in this year’s edition with a three-set win over Dominika Cibulkova. In two hours and 33 minutes, the Belarusian prevailed with 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
That was one of the better performances by Azarenka this season although, she is still far away from reaching the level she was once at. She incurred a series of early defeats in the Australian Open series and followed it with a second-round loss in St. Petersburg.
In Acapulco, she looked more confident than anywhere else, reaching the quarterfinal. However, she ultimately succumbed to Sofia Kenin in three sets. In Indian Wells, she made it as far as the second round before losing to Serena Williams.
Victoria Azarenka v Caroline Garcia Predictions & Tips
This is an evenly matched fixture mainly because both of them are heading into this game on the back of rather mediocre performances. Even though Garcia has one win over Azarenka, it may not matter a lot here since the Belarusian is certainly more experienced.
On top this, there is the bond that Azarenka has with Miami – she was a semifinalist here in the previous edition. All in all, this will be a close tie.
Tip: Azarenka to win in three: 3/1 (bet365)
