Coric Had Won Halle 2018

Coric has a poor Wimbledon record – although he has been competing at the All England club since 2014, he has never been beyond the second round there.

However, that does not mean he cannot play on grass – he was the 2018 Champion in Halle, and the man he beat in the final was Roger Federer, one of the finest grass court players of his generation.

Despite that, he prefers hard courts, as evidenced by his victory in the Cincinnati Masters last year.

He enjoyed relative success during the European clay court season, reaching the semi-finals in Madrid, and the last eight in Rome, though he might have hoped to do better at Roland Garros, beaten at the third round stage.

Against Bublik, he will want to improve on his first showing on grass of the season last week in Rosmalen, beaten in straight sets by the world number 68, Mackenzie McDonald of the USA.

Bublik Reached Grass Court Final Last Year

Although not brought up on the surface, Bublik has a decent record on grass.

He has reached the third round of Wimbledon in each of the past two years, matching his best performance in a Grand Slam to date.

And, among the three senior finals that he reached on the ATP tour last year was the Hall of Fame Open at Newport Beach in the US, where he was beaten in three sets by the American Maxime Cressy.

He has yet to add to his list of final appearances in 2023, the closest he has come being back in Marseille in February, where he reached the last four before losing to the Pole Hubert Hurkasz.

Like Coric, his first grass tournament of the season was last week in Rosmalen.

There he beat the Belgian David Goffin in the first round, before suffering a second round defeat at the hands of Jannik Sinner.

Coric v Bublik Prediction and Tip

Although Coric reached the final here five years ago, his subsequent form on grass has been nothing to write home about, whilst Bublik has a decent record on it.

That suggests it could be a close match which could well go the full distance.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Bublik to win: 7/8
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/4
