Nakashima Reached Wimbledon Fourth Round Last Year

It was Nakashima’s exploits at Wimbledon last year that enabled him to break into the top 50 in the world for the first time. He reached the fourth round before losing a fifth set battle with Nick Kyrgios.

And he carried some of that form through for the rest of the year, winning his maiden ATP tile in San Diego, and going on to be crowned the NextGen ATP Champion.

He has struggled to replicate those performances in 2023 to date, although he did reach the semi-finals in Lyon.

Any hopes, though, that he might have entertained of a deep run at the French Open were dashed by a first round defeat to Denis Shapovalov.

Nor did he fare better in his first match of the year on grass, beaten by Emil Ruusuvouri of Finland in three sets in their opening round match in Rosmalen.

Ymer Still Recovering from Lyon Disqualification

Earlier this year, Ymer broke into the top 50 in the world himself for the first time in his career, although he has subsequently dropped back a little.

His own Wimbledon record, though, is comparatively modest, with just two second round appearances to his name.

The Swede’s biggest claim to fame in 2023 has been one he wants to forget in a hurry. He was disqualified from the Lyon Open for smashing a racquet in frustration against the umpire’s chair.

That seems to have affected him psychologically as he has not won since.

He was beaten in the straight sets in the first round of the French Open, and lost his opening match in Rosmalen, beaten by Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands.

Nakashima v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Although both men lost their opening grass court match of the season, Nakashima’s performance at Wimbledon last year suggests that the surface suits his game more than the Swede’s.
