Francisco Cerundolo v Tommy Paul Head to Head
Their only previous meeting came on grass too – at the 2022 Eastbourne competition. Paul had won that in three sets.

Cerundolo Reaches Career-Best after French Open Showing
Cerundolo has made a name for himself on clay but his performances elsewhere haven’t quite lit the stands on fire.
And that will be of some concern for the Argentine as he takes to court for his opening round match of the grass swing. Especially given that Cerundolo has won just one match on this surface before this.
That win came at the Queen’s competition last year where he overcame Pedro Martinez but that was followed by three successive defeats on grass.
This time around Cerundolo will like to do a lot better as he enters this opening grass court competition on the back of his career-best ranking of 20th in the world. Can he come close to matching his showing at the French Open earlier this month where he had made the fourth round?

Qualifier Paul Adept on Grass
Paul has broken into the top 16 of the world rankings and will look to continue improve as he fine-tunes his performances for Wimbledon this year. This is following his stunning showing at the same tournament last season where he had made the fourth round last season.
And even that performance had been preceded by two quarterfinal appearances – at Queen’s and Eastbourne – making it a grass swing to remember for Paul.
Strangely, he wasn’t ranked high enough to make it to this tournament as a direct entrant and needed to make it through the qualifiers. Paul did it with ease, beating Taro Daniel and Billy Harris in successive matches to set up this first round match against Cerundolo.
While Cerundolo is 20th in the world, making this to be a potentially close match, Paul will have the confidence to get through against a player who has rarely done anything of note on this surface.
Cerundolo v Paul Prediction and Tip
Paul is a heavy favourite here and might even come through to the second round in straight sets.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Paul to win: 2/5
- Moderate Risk Tip: Paul to win in straight sets: 1/1
