Shapovalov Fell in Stuttgart Opener

Shapovalov was once ranked 10th in the world but has fallen to 29th at the moment and that has been down to his lack of consistency. This season specifically has been rather woeful for the Canadian player and has seen him slump to 11 defeats from 20 matches.

That includes the very latest loss in the first round of the Stuttgart Open last week, which was his first match on grass.

The Canadian had come into the match against Marton Fucsovics as a 4/5 favourite and looked to be riding the script rather well when he grabbed the first set. That. unfortunately, is where Shapovalov’s fight ended as he went down in the next two to concede the tie.

He will now hope he can turn things around in a tournament he has never played before this. In fact in the last six matches that Shapovalov has played on grass, he has won just one and will need a big push here.

Harris Struggling on Return

Having been out of action for a while because of fitness concerns and having fallen to outside the top 300, Harris enters this tournament ranked 296th in the world and with a lot to prove.

This year, Harris won a round at the Australian Open but hasn’t done anything of note since then.

In fact his last main draw victory at any level of tennis came at the Tenerife Challenger in February after which Lloyd has participated in seven tournaments and not managed a second round berth.

The last of those opening losses came on grass in what was his first tournament on this surface since 2021. He was done in by Arthur Fils in Rosmalen where he failed to make it through the qualifiers.

Even with Shapovalov’s form, he will find it tough to get through this.

Shapovalov v Harris Prediction and Tip

Shapovalov might be in some strife, but he should come through in three sets possbily.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Shapovalov to win: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/6
