2021 Finalist Rublev Hoping to Kick-Start Grass on a High

Rublev’s win-loss record on grass is 64.7%, at par with his performances on other surfaces but he has played a career total of only 17 matches on it so far. It also includes just one match last year on this grass where he lost in the first round at this very tournament.

Following that, Rublev wasn’t allowed to participate at Wimbledon because of their stance against Russian and Belarusian players and he opted to focus on the American hardcourt swing post that.

That isn’t to say that Rublev won’t be prepared for this.

He has already made it to the final of this tournament once before this – in 2021. And he had followed that up with a fourth round appearance at Wimbledon that season too, before he was shocked by Marton Fucsovics.

Rustiness aside, Rublev will be a strong contender to go deep in this tournament.

Yibing Coming off a Second Round Show at Stuttgart

It’s been a year where Yibing has managed to break into the top 100 for the first time in his career and also win his maiden ATP title.

That victory had come in Dallas earlier this season and while he hasn’t quite been able to follow that up with any kind of a performance to remember, Yibing has managed to remain in the top 60 of the rankings after touching a career-best of 54th in the world.

Last week, Yibing featured in his first grass court competition ever, with the Chinese player reaching the second round of the Stuttgart Open. He overcame a semi-fit Nick Kyrgios in the first round before Marton Fucsovics got the better of him in the second.

Now facing Rublev, Yibing will need to do a lot better than he has in the past to surprise his opponent and come up with the second win of his career on his surface.

Rublev v Yibing Prediction and Tip

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Rublev to win in straight sets: 8/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Rublev to win AND Over 21.5 games in the match: 11/8
