Nadia Podoroska v Rebeka Masarova Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, and that was in a Challenger event in Spain on clay earlier this month, Masarova winning in three sets.

Former French Open Semi-Finalist Podoroska

Like her opponent, Podoroska is much better known as a clay court player. She reached the semi-finals of the French Open in 2020, and, again in doubles, the following year.

A few weeks after that Podoroska also reached the second round of Wimbledon, the only time that she has won a match there.

After several years without laying her hands on a trophy, she broke that drought in February, winning the doubles at a Challenger event in Colombia.

Like Masarova, she has chosen to stay away from grass until now, continuing to concentrate her efforts on clay.

Podoroska’s last tournament was a Challenger event in Valencia, where she reached the semi-finals.

Season Debut on Grass for Masarova

Masarova was brought up on clay, and she is a former French Open junior champion, although she would have been disappointed that the first time she appeared in the main draw this year ended in an opening round defeat.

The same fate befell her on her first visit to Wimbledon last year, and she will not be expecting too much of herself when she returns there in a few weeks’ time.

Nevertheless, Masarova will return to the All England club with an extra spring in her step after a successful year on the junior tours, winning both singles and doubles titles, and appearing in several other finals.

This, though, is her first match of the year on grass, last featuring in action on the Challenger tour on the clay of Spain, where she got to the semi-finals before losing to the Hungarian, Panna Udvardy.

Podoroska v Masarova Prediction and Tip

This match is about who can adapt to the grass better, with both players natural clay court players. That means that the outcome is hard to predict, but Masarova may just have the edge, having won their previous match.

Anybody expecting a classic, though, is likely to be disappointed,

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Masarova to win: 14/19
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 22.5 games in the match: 5/6
