Rybakina Returns from Fitness Concerns at French Open

Rybakina was one of the favourites going into the French Open behind Iga Swiatek and probably tied with Aryna Sabalenka. Unfortunately for her she was unable to go beyond the third round as she was forced to withdraw from the tournament because of fitness concerns.

She will now return to her favourite grass – or at least a favourite for now given her Wimbledon title last season! – and her opening match will be against a player who is in her first season of grass.

That by itself makes her a huge favourite but the deal here is that the pressure will now be squarely on Rybakina unlike last season when her title win at Wimbledon was a bit of a shock.

Since then, however, she has done well to make the final of the Australian Open and Miami Open and win the Indian Wells Open as well.

Can she start off with a convincing win in what seems to be a lopsided contest?

Kudermetova Makes it Through the Qualifiers

As mentioned earlier, Kudemetova hadn’t played a single match on grass before the start of this season. And she looks to have started off reasonably well on it, having first featured in Rosmalen last week and then in the qualifiers for this tournament.

At the former, Kudermetova was a straight-set winner over Yue Yuan in the first round before Liudmilla eased past her in the second round.

Here in the qualifiers, Kudermetova made no qualms in getting past Lena Papadakis and Susan Bandecchi in straight sets to seal off a second entry into the main draw of a competition.

The trouble is that Kudermetova hasn’t done too much more than that in her career, even on other surfaces. Which is why facing a player ranked three in the world would seem a bridge too far for the Russian.

Rybakina v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

A straightforward win looks for Rybakina looks to be par for the course.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Rybakina to win in straight sets: 2/7
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/5
