Krejcikova Returns on Grass

Barbora Krejcikova hasn’t played a single match on grass this year so this will be her first one. The Czech player is not a natural fit on grass but she can play well on it and has been okay on it in the past. Her career record is 6-7 which doesn’t look great but there is a reason for it.

She’s a former doubles champion at Wimbledon and is well adapted on grass but her serve can betray her at times. She plays very aggressively so if she doesn’t have her day, she can easily lose matches that she would generally win. That’s happened more than once on grass so that’s why her score doesn’t look that great.

It’s been a solid year for her. She has that one major trophy won earlier this year in the Gulf but outside of that it’s been a lot of up-and-down results. The overall record is 20-11 which shows that she’s been generally good.

Bucsa is a fair opponent, one he can certainly beat and should beat due to the Spanish player’s own struggles this year.

Bucsa Hopeful of Upset

Cristina Bucsa is a natural fit on clay and that’s where she plays her best tennis but the way she approaches tennis allows her to play well on all surfaces. Case in point is her grass record which stands at 13-8 and is quite a bit better than that of her opponent.

Will she be favoured because of that? Not really because she’s facing a player who certainly has the higher ceiling and better skills. Their only match was won by Bucsa but Krejcikova had a rapid rise which transformed her from a superb doubles player and an okay singles player to a singles force.

When it comes to Bucsa, this won’t be her first match on grass this year. She played in Nottingham losing to Vekic in a tight 3-setter. She then played qualifiers here in Birmingham beating Betova and Saville. The latter win was a good one but it was also a close match.

She can certainly do some harm here but I don’t think she can win the match.

Krejcikova v Bucsa Prediction and Tip

Krejcikova is favoured to win the match even though this will be her first match on grass. We could see three sets making the over a solid option and that’s what we advise.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6
