As we were writing this preview, Zhu Lin was getting ready to meet Barbora Krejcikova in the semifinal of the Birmingham Open.

The world no. 39 has made a good start to her grass season and was 4-1 following her quarterfinal win on Friday.

The Chinese player, who won one and lost one in Nottingham, had beaten Katie Boulter, Magda Linette and Rebecca Marino en route the semifinal in Birmingham.

Overall, this has been a very productive season for the 29-year-old Zhu. She picked up her maiden WTA title at the Hua Hin Open and also made her fourth round debut at a Grand Slam in Melbourne.

Additionally, Zhu also reached the semifinals in Monterrey and the quarterfinals in Auckland during a 17-10 season and she could add two more wins before heading to Bad Homburg.

World no. 308 Sabine Lisicki brings a 0-2 tour-level record into the tournament. The first of her defeats came in the first round in Charleston and the other in the opening round in Berlin this week.

The 2013 Wimbledon finalist has an overall record of 10-8 this season with her best being a semifinal appearance in ITF Orlando.

She is currently on a five-match losing streak and her last win came in the first qualifying round in Stuttgart on April 15.

Lisicki will be playing in the main draw in Bad Hamborg for the second time. Last year, she made it to the quarterfinals in her first appearance.

A four-time tour-level winner from nine finals, Lisicki has played some of her best tennis on grass. In addition to finishing runner-up to Marion Bartoli in Wimbledon in 2013, she was also a semifinalist at the grass court major in 2011 and has been a quarterfinalist thrice.
