Varvara Gracheva v Jaqueline Cristian Head to Head
Gracheva leads 1-0, last beating Cristian in the final of the 2019 ITF Chiasso.

Gracheva Off to a Rough Start
Russia’s Varvara Gracheva started her grass swing on a slow note, losing to Donna Vekic in the first round of WTA Berlin 3-6, 2-6.
Nonetheless, she has recorded a respectable 28 wins this season while losing 18 in the process. She is also World No. 43 – which is just two places shy of her career-best positioning of #41.
Although the 22-year-old hasn’t quite won a title in 2023 (yet), Gracheva has enjoyed a good year. To list her biggest accomplishment, there is her round-four stint in the Miami Open and Indian Wells Open as a qualifier – beating Maryna Zanevska, Daria Kasatkina, Petra Martic, Ons Jabeur, and Magdalena Frech en route.
In addition, Varvara was a runner-up in the Austin Open, a quarterfinalist in WTA Strasbourg, and a semifinalist in the Paris Challenger.
It is yet to be seen if she can emulate these results on grass. She won just two matches on the surface – back in 2016. Of course, that may also be due to a lack of active participation – she has played just three grass matches in the last four years.

Cristian, Hard at Work
Jaqueline Cristian is set to start in Bad Homburg with a protected ranking. Like Gracheva, she, too, hasn’t seen a lot of success on grass. The 25-year-old Romanian has played just four grass matches in her entire career.
She last played in the Gaiba Challenger, where she lost to Sinja Kraus in round one.
Jaqueline is 30-15 for the season, supported by three ITF titles from Zagreb, Palmonova, and Trnava. In addition, the current #131 made it to the final few rounds in a few other ITF events.
On the WTA side of the coin, her best showing was reaching round two in the Madrid Open (beating Sloane Stephens in round one).
Gracheva v Cristian Prediction and Tip
This match can go either way; both players have had a similar season and aren’t that great on grass. Expect a good number of games.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Gracheva to win: 1/1
- Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
