Broady Beats Lucky Loser

Last year Broady, as a wildcard, reached the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career, beating Diego Schwartzman along the way.

And he is guaranteed to be back next week, having been granted wildcard status again.

He had only one won one match on grass prior to Eastbourne so far this season, but he managed to improve on that by beating compatriot Jan Choinski, who earned his place in the first round as a Lucky Loser.

Broady began strongly against the world number 167, breaking him in his opening service game and then consolidating that to take the first set.

When he broke Choinski at the start of the second set, it all seemed to be going according to plan for Broady.

Choinski proved that he had not read the script by breaking back, only to immediately drop his own serve again. From there Broady managed the rest of the match.

Ymer Ends His Losing Streak

It seems to have taken Ymer some time to get over the humiliation of being disqualified in Lyon for smashing the umpire’s chair with his racquet.

He had not won prior to his match with the world number 42, Botic van der Zandschulp of the Netherlands.

Initially, though, it looked like his dismal run was set to continue, as he went from a break up, to three breaks down in the first set, which he went on to lose.

However, having missed three break opportunities at the start of the second set, Ymer did break the Dutch serve, and held on to level the match.

By this time the tide had turned, and an early break gave Ymer the advantage in the third set. Another break gave him the cushion he needed to serve out for a long overdue win.

Broady v Ymer Prediction and Tip

Broady is not an opponent to be taken lightly on grass, so Ymer will need to be at the top of his game if he wants to progress. However, after ending his losing streak, he will believe he can progress.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Ymer to win: 8/15
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
