Medvedev Hoping to End Grass Struggles at Wimbledon
After having shown a turnaround on clay, Medvedev had come into the French Open as the second seed. One round later, he had crashed out of the tournament, suffering a surprise loss to Thiago Seyboth Wild in his opener.
That hasn’t gone down too well for Medvedev whose form in the grass court competitions before Wimbledon has been anything but stupendous.
The world number three, who was 39-5 on win-loss for the season before the start of the French Open, fell in the very first round at Rosmalen as well. This time around it was Adrian Mannarino who toppled him off the perch.
Medvedev followed that up with wins over Marcos Giron and Laslo Djere at the Halle Open but lost his quarterfinal match against Roberto Bautista-Agut. That makes it 2-2 for Medvedev on grass coming into Wimbledon.
What makes things worse for Medvedev is he has never reached the quarterfinal at Wimbledon before this. Even at the French Open, which has for long been his least favourite surface, Medvedev had made it to the last eight stage.
Will this be the year Medvedev changes things around?

Fery Earns a Wildcard
Having won a Futures circuit competition earlier this season, the local lad Fery was awarded a wildcard to feature in the first round of this year’s Wimbledon.
The 20-year-old, who has never been ranked better than 386th on the ATP charts, had also featured in the qualifiers of this tournament last two years bit did not make it through to the main draw. This time around Fery did not have to go through that process.
He did play on grass in the lead-up to this tournament though and would have liked to do a lot better than he eventually did.
At the Nottingham Challenger Fery made the second round, but since then has lost three in a row. This includes successive defeats at the Queen’s Club competition and Eastbourne International. Can he take advantage of Medvedev’s grass discomfiture with all those results?
Medvedev v Fery Prediction and Tip
While Medvedev has struggled to get going on grass, this shouldn’t be much of a problem for him and he can be expected to come through in three.
Tips:
- Low Risk Tip: Medvedev to win in straight sets: 1/10
- Moderate Risk Tip: Under 25.5 games in the match: 5/6
