Djokovic Favourite to Add to His 23 Grand Slam Titles

At the start of the season, the big question on everyone’s lips was if Djokovic can return strongly to Grand Slam tennis after having missed a couple of them last year. The narrative has changed drastically with some now reckoning he has a chance to win the calendar slam, having lifted the title at his least favourite Slam, the French Open.

In fact, while the clay courts of French Open haven’t got much to do with the Wimbledon grass, his tournament victory at Roland-Garros was an insight into the great man’s skills, temperament and guts. Having struggled through most of the clay court swing he wasn’t expected to go the distance even in the absence of Rafael Nadal but Djokovic found a way to do that.

Like he always does.

And in doing so, the Serb also earned himself his 23rd Grand Slam title, the most by any male singles player.

Djokovic will now return to his most favourite surface and starts off as a favourite in not just this opening round encounter but one to win the title again.

Cachin on Wimbledon Debut

For a player who has reached a career-high ranking of 54th in the world, it’s surprising to see that Cachin has never won a main draw match at Wimbledon.

In fact, Cachin’s record on grass is rather appalling with the Argentine’s only previous win on this surface having come in a qualifier at Wimbledon. Other than that, nada.

And the reason behind this discrepancy is rather simple to explain. Cachin is one of the dirtballers on the tour who has made a name for himself by grinding opponents out on clay court surfaces. Grass and hardcourt competitions have never added any value to Cachin and he will now enter this tournament knowing very well what lies ahead.

Because overcoming Novak Djokovic even in a set has been an object in futility for most players around the world, let alone for someone who has never won a match on grass before.

Djokovic v Cachin Prediction and Tip

Djokovic is a whopping 1/50 to win this and 1/5 to do that in straight sets and we will have to go with that as a safe punt. Expecting this to be over in double quick time.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 1/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 25.5 games in the match: 5/6
