Gauff Reckons Grand Slam Title Not Far

She is ranked seventh in the world but in more recent times, Gauff has been struggling with her consistency. More vitally, some of the harder hitters of the tennis ball have found a way past her regularly and that could be a problem she needs to solve quickly.

Because while Gauff reckons she isn’t too far from winning a Grand Slam title – something she claimed recently – the truth is players of the caliber of Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina look to be streets ahead of her at the moment.

Gauff did show what she is capable of on grass when she stunned Jessica Pegula in the quarterfinal of the Eastbourne International in the week leading up to this tournament but was then sent packing by Madison Keys in the very next match.

What Gauff will want to do is start things off with a facile win, especially against a former Grand Slam winner. That could pave the path for Gauff to garner more and more confidence as she sharpens her claws for the sterner battles ahead.

Kenin Eases Through the Qualifiers

That Kenin made it through the qualifiers here at Wimbledon might not have come as a big surprise to the casual onlooker but at some level, it would have been a relief for her.

That’s because of her form on grass this season, which in continuation of her overall form, has been wretched.

Adding all the levels of tournaments including qualifiers, Kenin had entered the Wimbledon qualifying rounds with a win-loss record of 12-14 under her belt. And of those 12 wins, four came in January this year. Since then, the American has barely managed to win a thing.

Coming into the grass season, Kenin lost in the qualifiers of the Nottingham Open and then went down in the second round the WTA 125 event in Gaiba.

Which is why those straight-set routs of Irina Falconi, Moyuka Uchijima and Taylor Townsend in these Wimbledon 2023 qualifiers could go some way in helping Kenin shrugging off her poor form. Can she put up a fight though?

Gauff v Kenin Prediction and Tip

We expect Gauff to steamroll her opponent here, winning in straight sets.

  • Low Risk Tip: Gauff to win in straight sets: 4/5
