A semifinalist at ‘s-Hertogenbosch last month, Emil Ruusuvuoti is coming off back-to-back first round defeats in Queen’s and Eastbourne. So the world no. 45 is 3-3 on grass so far this season but is currently on a three-match losing streak.
Ruusuvuori will look to put the recent setbacks behind him and get back to winning ways in the first round in Wimbledon, where he will be making his third appearance this year.
The Finn had lost in the opening round on his Wimbledon debut in 2021 and had gone down in the second round last year.
Overall, Ruusuvuori is 19-16 at the tour level in 2023 and that includes second round appearances in the first two majors. He also reached a maiden ATP 1000 quarterfinal in Miami, but other than that he has not had a lot of impact elsewhere.
Can he deliver at Wimbledon? He won’t be looking to far beyond yet as he faces a tough first round contest against the experienced Wawrinka. Also, since he has never gone past the second round at a Grand Slam, things don’t seem too encouraging for the Finn.

Facing Ruusuvuori is the vastly experienced Stan Wawrinka. The Swiss, who has won all three of the other Grand Slam titles once each, has a 20-16 record at Wimbledon.
Wawrinka’s best at the grass-court major came in 2014 and 2015, as he reached the quarterfinals in both the years.
Otherwise it is the only major where the 38-year-old former no. 3 has found things difficult. In his last five Wimbledon appearances, Wawrinka has made three second round exits and two opening round exits.
Currently ranked no.87, the Swiss is 13-11 at the tour level this year.

Ruusuvuori v Wawrinka Prediction and Tip
Given that Wawrinka has not played a match on grass this year and Ruusuvuori has already played six of them, the Finn will have slight edge. Also, Wawrinka has not played in a month, so he maybe slightly rusty. The Swiss’ experience will help him give a tough fight, but Ruusuvuori should eventually come out on top.
