Podoroska’s Struggled on Grass

A former semifinalist at the French Open, Podoroska has generally struggled to get going on other surfaces. And it’s been no different on grass either with the Argentine coming into this tournament on the back of underwhelming performances on that surface this season.

She started off at the Berlin Open where Podoroska did win her opening match on grass against Rebeka Masarova but from that point onward things have looked rather southward.

In the second round, Podoroska was taken apart by Petra Kvitova before she lost her qualifier at the Bad Homburg Open against Jil Teichmann. She still qualified as a lucky loser but things didn’t get any better with the Argentine getting crushed by Emma Navarro 6-2, 6-0 in the opener.

With the kind of record that Podoroska has outside of clay and with the kind of performances dished out on grass this season it does look like things could rather difficult for her here.

Martincova Played in All Three Grass Competitions in 2023

Attempting to enter Wimbledon 2023 at her best, Martincova opted to participate in all three grass court competitions that were on the show in its lead-up. Her performances, however, left a lot to desire.

Starting out at the Nottingham Open, the former world number 40 fell in the very first round to Jodie Burrage, losing in three sets.

She went through the qualifiers to make the main draw at the Birmingham Open where she then defeated Viktoriya Tomova only to lose to Barbora Krejcikova in the second. Still that was a way better showing than what happened in Eastbourne where Martincova lost in the second round of qualification to Lauren Davis.

And then entering the tournament main draw as a lucky loser, Martincova was no match for Madison Keys in her opener.

Can she now take down a clay court specialist who has struggled on other surfaces?

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Martincova to win: 4/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Martincova to win in straight sets: 11/10
