Vekic in a Stunning Win over Stephens

Despite starting out a 2/5 favourite in her second round match against Sloane Stephens, Vekic was staring at a defeat when she lost the first set and was 2-5 down in the second set.

Stephens was soon serving for the match at 5-3 but Vekic earned herself a break-point which she converted to soon level things out at 5-5. Another break of serve followed in the 11th game before Vekic needed three set-points to level things out.

Now suddenly a lot more confident, Vekic broke Stephens off the fifth chance she got to go 2-1 up and held on for the rest of the encounter to clinch her place in the third round.

This follows an easy opening win for Vekic against Shuai Zhang, having dropped just three games in that encounter. She will now look to emulate her previous best showing at Wimbledon here.

Vondrousova Sends Kudermetova Out

Veronika Kudermetova has been in and around the top 10 of the WTA Rankings in recent times and was a 4/6 favourite coming into her second round match against Vondrousova. Vondrousova, a former French Open runner-up, dispelled those odds with disdain as she grabbed a straight-set win to make it to the third round here for the first time in her career.

Vondrousova, who had stalled Peyton Stearns’ rise on the women’s circuit in the first round, overcame Kudermetova 6-3, 6-3 to make it forward.

In a match lasting an hour and a half, Vondrousova kept improving her serving as the encounter progressed, finally clinching the win with just three points lost off the final three service games.

She had earlier broken Kudermetova twice in the first set and while Kudermetova found a bit of a way back with a break back, Vondrousova earned a third break of serve to win the set.

The second set was a lot more straightforward with the Czech player going 4-2 up and never looked like losing serve after that.

Vekic v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip
