Keys Breezes Past Golubic

Madison Keys extended her win streak to seven matches after earning a 7-5 6-3 win over Swiss qualifier Viktorija Golubic.

Keys who trailed 1-3 in the head-to-head against the one-hander, had lost the last three meetings including the fourth round of Wimbledon two years ago.

But the American has cut that head-to-head lead with an assured performance from start to finish. The two players exchanged breaks midway through the first set.

And Golubic did well to extend the set by a few more games after saving two set points at 4-5. Keys, however, was not to be denied in game 12, as she broke Golubic for the second time to wrap up a 44-minute first set.

In the second set, Keys saved two breaks points from 15-40 to hold. And a couple of games later, that pressure was quickly transmitted to the Swiss who wasn’t able to hold under a barrage of relentless hitting from the American who converted a break point at the second attempt.

Keys would go on to put the finishing touches to another straight-sets win.

Kostyuk Benefits From Badosa’s Retirement

Marta Kostyuk broke a new barrier on Friday as she advanced into the third round of Wimbledon for the first time in her career.

Kostyuk led 6-2 1-0 before her opponent Paula Badosa retired with a back injury. The injury is not an obvious surprise, considering that Badosa recently missed the French Open due to a stress fracture in her spine and might have rushed her return.

The Ukranian has had an unforgettable tournament albeit it’s only been two rounds. Victory over Maria Sakkari in her opener was the first top-10 win of her career.

The fact that Kostyuk managed to turn that match around despite starting at a 6-0 first-set whitewash gave her immense confidence that she could hang tough with World No. 36 Badosa.

And Kostyuk’s superiority was on show in a first set where her baseline aggression proved too much to handle for the ailing Spaniard.

Kostyuk will look to reach the second week of a slam for just the second time but faces a daunting challenge against in-form Keys.

Keys v Kostyuk Prediction and Tip

Keys is in red-hot form right now and it is tough to bet against a player with such high ceiling on her strongest surface. Kostyuk’s run deserves deserves some plaudits, but she’s unlikely to topple the in-form American.
