Djokovic leads the rivalry 5-0. This is their second meeting at Wimbledon, Djokovic won in 2019 in four sets. This year, the two met once in Dubai, with the Serb winning in straight sets.

World no. 2 Novak Djokovic eased into the fourth round with a third straight sets win in a row.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner, who is looking to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon titles this year, knocked out old rival Stan Wawrinka 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) in two hours and 10 minutes.

Djokovic did not face a single break point against the Swiss, while he converted 4 of 9 to improve his head to head record against Wawrinka to 21-6.

The Serb, who is the outright favourite to defend his title this year, did not face a break point against Jordan Thompson in the second round either. The former no. 1 won that match 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 in just under two and a half hours.

Dokovic however was broken once in the first round, and that was just n. his second service game of the tournament but he recovered soon to beat Pedro Cachin 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4). he has not looked in trouble since then.

Although the crowds have booed him and cheered on his opponents, it has not bothered him much as he has steadily gone about his business.

Djokovic, who is playing his first tournament since winning the French Open, is currently on a 10-match winning streak. While at Wimbledon, the Serb is on a 31-match winning streak, having won four consecutive titles in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. He is now tied with Pete Sampras, who recorded that streak between 1997 and 2001. Bjorrn Borg still holds the record of winning 41 consecutive matches at Wimbledon, between 1976 and 1981, while Roger Federer enjoyed a streak of 40 consecutive wins, between 2003 and 2008. Djokovic and Sampras are third in that list.

Hurkacz Breezes Past Musetti

Like Djokovic, Hubert Hurkacz too did not drop a set in the first week. His latest win came over Italy’s Loreno Musetti in the third round on Friday.

The world no. 18 struck 16 aces and 37 winners to beat the world no. 16, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and four minutes. Hurkacz saved all four break points that he faced in the match while he converted 2 of 4 to dump out the 14th seed.

Hurkacz has not been broken so far in the tournament. The Pole ousted Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round and then defeated Britain’s Jan Choinski 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).

A semifinalist at Wimbledon in 2021, Hurkacz improved to 7-2 on grass this season. While he has been dominant in the third major of the season so far, he faces a massive challenge to reach his second Grand Slam quarterfinal. Can the Pole pull off a massive upset on Sunday?
