Our 2023 ATP Hall of Fame Open Predictions & Picks
Four former champions are in the draw at the Hall of Fame Open including John Isner, Steve Johnson, Kevin Anderson, and Maxime Cressy.
Defending champion Cressy is in the midst of a career slump, with just one win in 14 matches, and his ranking will take a massive hit with another early exit here. However, he’s shown some steely resolve in the last two or three matches on grass and could rekindle his season on familiar turf.
Isner is in the twilight of his career, and he’s got a three-digit ranking coming to Newport. While the serve still remains a bedrock in his game, his movement is severely limited. The towering American turned 38 a few months ago, and time is most certainly not on his side.
Top seed Tommy Paul had a fine grass campaign, reaching his first final on the surface in Eastbourne and nearly pulled off one of the most spectacular comebacks of his career at Wimbledon, falling just short in the third round against Jiri Lehecka. Paul will fancy his chances of claiming some silver, but plenty of grass court specialists are playing in Newport.
One of them is Adrian Mannarino who also reached a final in the tuneup for Wimbledon and is always a threat on grass, but it will depend on how much gas he’s got in the tank. The Frenchman has played 12 matches in the past month but remains an attractive pick in the outright.
- Outright Winner Tip: Tommy Paul
- Outright Winner Dark Horse Tip: Adrian Mannarino
