Our 2023 ATP Bastad Open Predictions & Picks
Top seed Casper Ruud will be happy to return to his beloved surface and he was sent packing by British wild card Liam Broady in the Wimbledon second round.
The Norwegian’s distaste for grass was evident once the French Open was up, with Ruud trading the lawns of tennis for golf.
Now that the grass season is done and dusted, Ruud’s most profitable part of summer begins. The three-time Grand Slam finalist has bagged at least three clay-court titles in each of the last two seasons and is a clear-cut favorite to triumph in Bastad for a second time.
Andrey Rublev is a close second although it remains to be seen whether the Russian is emotionally and physically checked in for Bastad having just made the fourth round of Wimbledon (lost to Djokovic).
Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry is of strong interest in the outright. The 23-year-old rose to a career-high World No. 30 following his run to the French Open quarterfinal. And his quest to land a maiden ATP title will gather some momentum next week.
- Outright Winner Tip: Casper Ruud
- Outright Winner Dark Horse Tip: Tomas Martin Etcheverry
