Zhang Zhizhen v Hamad Medjedovic Head to Head
While they have never played each other at the highest level they did face off on the Challenger circuit in 2022 and Medjedovic had won that in straight sets to lift the title.

Zhang Returns to Favourite Surface
Zhang started the season off ranked 99th and he has improved to his career-best ranking of 52nd in the world. And that has been down to his showing on clay which has seen him sparkle at the Madrid Masters and the French Open.
At the former, Zhang defeated Denis Shapovalov, Cameron Norrie and Taylor Fritz on his way to the quarterfinals where he lost to Aslan Karatsev. A third round berth at the French Open followed soon after that with only Casper Ruud managing to get the better of him at that stage.
On grass, Zhang featured in four tournaments this season and it was only at Eastbourne that he managed to win a match. He reached the quarterfinal there, but in the other three tournaments he failed to make it past the opening round.
In fact at the Halle Open, Zhang was unable to get past the qualifiers either.
All that will be behind him now though as he returns to clay where he has had a top showing for the year.

Improving Medjedovic Makes It Through the Qualifiers
Only early last year, the 18-year-old Medjedovic was ranked 671st in the world. Today he stands at his career-best ranking of 156th and while he could fall a few places when the new rankings come out on Monday, a qualification for this tournament shows what he is made of.
And that has been on display for a while at the lower level.
A winner of three Futures events on clay last year, Medjedovic added a Challenger title win to his kitty in 2022 and has followed it up with two more tournament victories on the Challenger circuit. All of these wins have come on clay, pointing to Medjedovic’s preference.
What that means is that while Zhang himself doesn’t mind playing on this surface, Medjedovic will make life on court very difficult for him. More so because he comes into this encounter on the back of some more practice on clay in the immediate lead-up to this.
Zhizhen v Medjedovic Prediction and Tip
Not much there to choose between these two and we suspect we could end up seeing a third set in this as the match gets close.
Tips:
- Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
