Yannick Hanfmann v Daniel Altmaier Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two that came in 2023 itself. It was in the third round of the Madrid Masters and Altmaier had come through in straight sets in that one.

Hanfmann Coming off Wimbledon Ouster

Hanfmann isn’t much of a grass-courter but he did come into Wimbledon on the back of a solid showing at the Mallorca Open where he made the semifinal there.

At Wimbledon too, while he was beaten in the first round, Hanfmann gave a good account of himself there. The German took Taylor Fritz to five sets before crashing out of the tournament.

Clay, on the other hand, is where Hanfmann excels. This has been on display this year with performances at Madrid and Rome Masters helping him hit his career-best ranking of 45th on the ATP charts.

At Rome, he came through the qualifiers to enter the quarterfinals, defeating Nicolas Jarry, Fritz and Andrey Rublev on the way.

Can he make it deep in these clay-court competitions in the lead-up to the American swing after getting this opening round bye?

It took Altmaier an hour and 22 minutes in the end but he managed to register a straight-set victory over Benjamin Bonzi in his opener.

Altmaier took early in the first set when he broke Bonzi in the very second game of the opening set and at one stage was serving for a 5-2 lead. Bonzi broke back at that time but lost his serve in the very next game again before Altmaier served it out in the ninth game.

The second set was slightly more straightforward for the world number 64. Off his very first break-point, Altmaier broke his opponent as he went 2-1 up.

And from that point onward he faced just one break-point which he saved, before clinching the match off his first match-point.

This follows a solid showing on clay from Altmaier, who had reached the quarterfinal of the Madrid Masters and the third round at the French Open. And having beaten Hanfmann once earlier on clay, he will know he can repeat exactly that.

Hanfmann v Altmaier Prediction and Tip

Hanfmann might start off as a favourite here but we think Altmaier looks like a good option at 11/8.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Altmaier to win: 11/8
