Local Lad Madaras Gets a Wildcard

Madaras has been given a wildcard into what is a home event for the 25 year old Swede.

He comes into the event having enjoyed a highly successful season so far on the World Tennis Tour, where he has already reached 14 finals since the turn of the year, all of them on clay, and winning ten of them.

However, he only made his main tour debut in Sofia last year, losing in the first round in Bulgaria.

This will be his first main draw appearance this season, and he was last in action on the Challenger tour, losing in straight sets to the Chilean, Cristian Garin, in an event in Romania.

Van Assche Has Won Two Challenger Titles This Year

Earlier this year, van Assche reached a career high ranking, propelled by his exploits on the Challenger tour, where he has won two titles this season, one on hard courts in France, and the other on Italian clay.

And he also made his Grand Slam debut in Australia, recording his first win at that level at Roland Garros.

He found the subsequent transition to grass more difficult than he would have liked, failing to qualify in Halle, although he did make it through to the second round of Eastbourne.

His first experience of Wimbledon, though ended in defeat, although he was no means disgraced in his match with the world number 50 Aslan Karatsev, taking the first set off him before losing the next three.

Madaras v Van Assche Prediction and Tip

For all his exploits on the junior tour, this is a step up in class for Madaras. Although the Swede can count on local support, the Frenchman should have too much in his armoury for him.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Van Assche to win: 5/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 5/4
