Thiem Is a Former Champion
2015 Swiss Open champion Dominc Thiem will be making his fourth appearance in Gstaad. He also made a strong run in the tournament last year, winning three matches in a row, but he could not go past Matteo Berrettini in the semifinal.
The world no. 91 Thiem is 7-15 on the tour this season, and 13-21 across levels. Some of the highlights for the 29-year-old this season included last eight finishes in Estoril and Munich and a semifinal finish at the Mauthausen challenger.
A 17-time tour level champion from 28 career finals, Thiem is 10-7 in clay court finals and has two runner-up finishes at Roland Garros.
The 2020 U.S. Open champion last won a tour level main draw match against Kyle Edmund in the first round in Madrid in April. Since then he has had success in lower level matches but not at the top level. His most recent defeat came against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round in Wimbledon, where he went down fighting in five sets.
Thiem has lost his last four competitive matches across levels. Can he return to winning ways in Gstaad?
