Yastremska was once knocking on the doors of a top-20 ranking on the WTA charts. Today she has fallen off it, ranked 149th in the world and struggling to sew wins together.
Most of her victories have come on the WTA 125 circuit and a few others in the qualifiers of events but the last time she won a main draw match at the highest level was in the Indian Wells Open. She had reached the second round there with a win over Ana Bondar before falling to Barbora Krejcikova.
Since then, Yastremska has featured in nine tournaments at the highest level and won nothing.
More recently, on grass, she played in three tournaments but did not qualify for any of them, falling in the qualifiers itself. She did come close at Wimbledon but lost in the third round of qualification to Celine Naef in three sets.
Can she now turn things around against a player whose career-best ranking is 399th?

Ristic’s career-best ranking on the WTA circuit is 399th and she enters this tournament having fallen to 443rd after a few results that didn’t go her way.
What would be fascinating for the 17-year-old Serb, who is only in her third year of her career, is this is her first ever appearance in the main draw of a WTA tournament. She got there on the back of successive qualifying wins.
In both those matches, Ristic was on the verge of getting knocked out but came back to win in three.
She first overcame Cagla Buyukakcay 6-7 (4), 7-6 (8), 7-5 and then edged past Kathinka Von Deichmann 1-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) to surprise most of those following the tournament. Probably even her own self.
