He made it to the semifinals on his Bastad debut last year and the Russian is back into the final four with a straight sets win over Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal on Friday.

Rublev was not broken by the German in the quarterfinal clash as he saved 2 of 2 break points. Meanwhile, the world no. 7 held 5 break points in the entire contest and he converted three of them to complete 6-2, 6-3 victory in just 69 minutes.

Rublev had started his Swedish Open campaign in the second round, where he knocked out Pavel Kotov 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

Rubev has had a great run this year and a win on Saturday will take him into his 22nd final and a fifth in 2023.

A 13-time tour level champion, Rublev has won just one title this year and that was his maiden ATP 1000 title in Monte Carlo. In the other tournaments, he finished runner-up in Dubai, Banja Luka and the Halle Open in Belgium.

Fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo won the battle of Argentines in straight sets on Friday to extend his winning run in Bastad to seven matches.

Cerundolo is the defending champion and had won the title last year by beating Sebastian Baez in the final.

The world no. 20 began this year’s tournament in the second round after receiving a first round bye and he got off to a good start scoring a 6-2, 6-3 win over Luca Van Assche.

In the quarterfinal on Friday, Federico Coria gave him a tough fight in the first set, but Cerundolo managed to win the opening set by winning five consecutive games. He then dominated the second set to register a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Cerundolo, a strong clay court player, will be aiming to reach a fifth ATP final with a win on Saturday. He has a 1-3 record in clay finals and a 1-0 record in grass final. Cerundolo won the grass title in Eastbourne this year. He had also reached the final in Lyon but went down to Arthur Fils.
