Nakashima Hoping to Shrug off Recent Form
Having hit a career-best ranking of 43rd in the world and gunning to break into the top 40, Nakashima looks to have fallen off the radar in recent times. In fact it’s been a fairly forgettable season for Nakashima who has won a mere eight matches out of the 22 he has played in.
For a player who had won his maiden ATP title last year in San Diego and ended the season with a tournament with at the Next Gen Finals, Nakashima also enters this tournament on the back of four defeats his previous five matches.
This includes a second round loss at the Atlanta Open last week where he began well with a win over Max Purcell, only to be edged out by Christopher Eubanks in the second.
Can he turn things around here?

Vukic Coming off a Solid Atlanta Open Showing
Vukic comes into this tournament on the back of a finals appearance in Atlanta. There he lost to Taylor Fritz but his form and confidence will be super high entering this one.
What makes this good news for Vukic is that even before going into the Atlanta Open, he was at his career-best ranking of 82nd in the world. And then wins over Ethan Quinn, Yoshihito Nishioka and Christopher Eubanks meant he had not only made it to the last four of the tournament but also he would enter the Washington Open having broken into the top 80.
This will also be the first time that Vukic will be playing in Washington, but then again this is one of those rare seasons in which he has played so much tennis at the highest level.
Part of that has been possible due to his exemplary form on the Challenger circuit thanks to which his win-loss record in hardcourt competitions this season reads a whopping 27-10. Can he relegate Nakashima to another loss?
Nakashima v Vukic Prediction and Tip
Nakashima will not have it easy but the advantage he has his Vukic won’t be getting too much of a break before this encounter. Backing a Nakashima win as a result of that.
