Alexander Bublik v Gael Monfils Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, and the current head to head record is one win each.

.Bublik won their first round match at the French Open in 2020, but, two years later, it was the turn of Monfils when they met in the second round of the Australian Open.

Consistent Bublik Back in Action

Bublik continues to be a consistent performer on the ATP tour.

He reached his fourth final in the past 18 months in Halle, winning his second title, and his first on grass.

A few weeks later he reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career at Wimbledon, before losing in five sets to Andrey Rublev.

He has not played since, having taken some time off to prepare for the rigours of the American hard court season, and was given a first round bye courtesy of his seeding in Washington.

Monfils Ends His Losing Run

A former top ten player, Monfils has been playing with a Protected Ranking since returning from the foot injury which brought a premature end to his 2022 season, using the time off as paternity leave as well after welcoming his first child with wife Elina Svitolina.

Now 36, he has struggled to rediscover any of the form that has earned him 11 career titles, and before arriving in Washington, he had not won a match since reaching the second round of a Challenger tournament on clay in the Czech Republic in April.

He would, therefore, have been glad to put that losing run behind him with a first round victory over the American qualifier Bjorn Fratangelo, a player ranked 695 in the world currently.

One break of serve was enough for the Frenchman to ease through the first set, and then another in the second set made sure that he claimed a much needed victory.

Fratangelo never really threatened him on his own serve.

Bublik v Monfils Prediction and Tip

Given Monfils’ recent struggles with form, it is difficult to make much of a case for the Frenchman in this match against an opponent who remains one of the most consistent on the ATP tour.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Bublik to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
