Humbert Returns from Atlanta Semis

Having made it to the Atlanta Open semifinal last week, Humbert’s confidence will be sky-high. More so because in getting to the last four, he overcame Alex de Minaur.

What makes him a favourite coming into this encounter is his overall form this season which has seen him make a sharp ascent up the rankings charts.

Humbert had dipped down to 108th on the ATP Rankings in January but slowly and steadily has now risen back to 36th and that has been thanks to his results across the surfaces.

On clay, for instance, Humbert won a couple of Challenger titles. On hardcourt surfaces, he made the third round of the Australian Open and then was a finalist at the Pau Challenger and then there was that Atlanta Open semifinal.

And one week before his Atlanta foray, Humbert had also entered the semis at the Newport Open on grass.

Can he continue with that run?

Kokkinakis Escapes against Daniel

Despite starting out a 4/6 favourite against Taro Daniel in his first round, Kokkinakis was staring at a defeat when he lost the first set there.

It took more than two hours over the next two sets for Kokkinakis to make a comeback and win 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 in a match where things could have so gone against him.

For instance when he fell 2-4 behind in the second set after having lost the first, the writing seemed to be on the wall. And while he came back to win the second set and then broke again to go 1-0 up, Daniel showed he was no pushover when he broke right back to level things out.

It could have been anyone’s match from that point and Kokkinakis took the initiative in the seventh game with another break of serve that sealed his win.

This followed his second round appearance last week in Atlanta too where he had gone down to fellow Aussie Alex de Minaur. Interestingly, de Minaur had then lost to Humbert.

Humbert v Kokkinakis Prediction and Tip

Humbert will hold the advantage here and should come through but not before his Aussie opponent has given him a bit of a fight.

  • Low Risk Tip: Humbert to win: 3/5
