Evans in Top Form

Daniel Evans will be going into the Canadian Open with a lot of confidence behind him. The 33-year-old Briton is into the final of the Washington Open, slated to take place later on Sunday.

Evans defeated Grégoire Barrère and Alexander Shevchenko in the first two rounds and then knocked out second seed Francis Tiafoe and fifth seed Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, to set up a final against Tallon Griekspoor.

This will be Evans’ fourth final at the tour level and a first at an ATP 500 tournament. In his previous three finals, Evans finished runner-up in the first two, but won his only ATP title at the Murray River Open in 2021.

The world no. 30 is 12-18 at the tour level this season. He is expected to make a quick start in the tournament.

Evans has a 5-3 record in Toronto and his best came last year, when he reached the semifinal before falling to Pablo Carreno Busta.

Diallo to Make Toronto Debut

World no. 140 Gabriel Diallo has been handed a wild card for the tournament. The Canadian is 25-20 across levels, but at the tour level, he has lost all three of his main draw matches this year, which included first round defeats in Dallas, Newport and Los Cabos.

Diallo won a Futures title earlier this season, and reached semifinals in the Busan Challenger. Additionally, he was also a quarterfinalist in six other tournaments.

The 21-year-old, who s yet to break in the top 100, will be making his Canadian Open debut.

He had lost in the second qualifying round last year. However, having received a wild card this year he will look to impress his home fans.

Evans v Diallo Prediction and Tip

Evans is in fantastic form at the moment. Diallo will look to draw inspiration from his Surbiton win over Evans, but given the form the Briton is in at the moment, expect this to be a one-sided affair with Evans advancing.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Evans to win: 1/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 20.5 games in the match: 4/6
