Donna Vekic v Jasmine Paolini Head to Head
It’s 1-1 between the two players; they last met in Courmayeur in 2021, where Vekic won 6-2, 6-0.

Vekic is Back in her Element
Donna Vekic will be excited for the upcoming American swing, seeing that the upcoming tournaments are hard-court based. Clay has never been her strong suit, which explains her shock first-round loss to Storm Hunter in Hamburg most recently. It was a similar story in Paris, Madrid, and Stuttgart too.
Keeping those aside, the Croatian has done well in other events. Case in point, she won the Monterrey Open and, later on, was a runner-up in WTA Berlin.
Vekic was a quarterfinalist in the Australian Open and Linz Open as well – which helped her crack the top 30 again. Now ranked World No. 22, Donna has 26 wins against only 12 defeats in 2023.
That said, Vekic has never made it past round two in the Canadian Open. This time may prove to be different – given her season and overall form.

Paolini Coming off a Decent Year
While Vekic may be glad that clay season is behind her, Italy’s Jasmine Paolini may not share her enthusiasm.
Some of the best results of her season have come on the dirt track – notably her runner-up feats in the Palermo International and Makarska Challenger and her title run in Florence 125.
This is not to say that Paolini cannot play on hard courts at all – she has made it to two WTA finals on the surface – the last one coming in Romania in 2022. However, when you look at the star-studded field in Montreal, it is hard not to see Paolini starting as the underdog.
Jasmine’s record for the year is 23-20, and she last played in Hamburg, where she fell to Daria Saville in the opener.
Interestingly, Paolini is making her debut in the Canadian Open this week.
Vekic v Paolini Prediction and Tip
Vekic has had a fine run this season on hard courts, which gives her a solid advantage in this match. Expect this game to go her way – albeit after facing some heavy resistance from Jasmine.
Tips:
- Low-Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
- Moderate Risk Tip: Vekic to win 2-1: 11/5
