Marino Hoping to Recapture Career-Best Form

It was in 2011 that Marino had hit a career-best ranking of 38th in the world but since then has slid down the charts. So much so that in 2021 she was out of the top 300.

More recently, however, the Canadian earned herself a respectable world ranking of 63rd, which is something she maintained at the start of this season too. Unfortunately for her, she has been unable to maintain and has fallen to 90th at the moment because of a steady decline in her performances.

While Marino did make it to the quarterfinals of the Birmingham International that finished up as being her best showing for the tournament on the WTA circuit.

More recently, about two weeks ago, Marino featured on the ITF circuit where she was a semifinalist on the hardcourts of Granby. It took Katherine Sebov to end her run and it’s this performance she would hope to take when she faces the in-form qualifier Boulter.

Boulter Brings Grass Form to Canadian Open

A title winner on the ITF circuit and then another tournament win on the WTA Tour has meant Boulter enters this tournament on the back of some sparkling form.

It also means she is close to her career-best ranking of 73rd and entered the main draw of this tournament for only the second time in her career, Boulter will be extremely confident of starting off with a win here.

Boulter’s overall season record reads a solid 32-14 spread across the circuits and qualifiers but more vitally she is 20-6 in hardcourt competitions. This includes three finals appearance in ITF hardcourt tournaments and a title to boot.

Straight-set wins over Miriam Bulgaru and Marina Ribera in the qualifiers have injected her with that confidence that should install her a favourite.
