Tommy Paul v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

Paul and Schwartzman will face off in a competitive match before this.

Paul Loses Early in Los Cabos

Returning to hardcourt tennis at the Los Cabos Open, Paul had an opening round bye before he won the second round against Felipe Alves.

That was the only match he won though as Paul was felled by the eventual finalist Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinal. And even before that, Paul had been sent packing from the quarterfinal of the Newport Open, having overcome Ethan Quinn in the only match he won.

Paul has had a solid season overall though and that has meant he has improved to 14th in the world. This has been down to his semifinal appearance at the Australian Open and having finished a finalist at the Acapulco Open, both of which came on hardcourt surface.

Later in the season, Paul also made the final on the grass courts of Eastbourne and while his recent form hasn’t quite been up to the scratch he will know he has a good chance against his Argentine opponent.

Schwartzman Forced to Come Through the Qualifiers

Such have been Schwartzman’s struggles at the highest level this season that the Argentine has fallen to 98th in the world. Only at the start of the season he was 25th on the circuit and a year before that he was ranked 13th.

Schwartzman’s record this season has been underwhelming at best.

From the 27 matches he’s played at the highest level, he has won a mere nine and just three of them have come in hardcourt competitions.

This only adds to his issues coming into this tournament with the only mitigating factor being his qualifier wins over Liam Draxl and Vukic Aleksandar. Can he take that form forward here?

Paul v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

Paul shouldn’t have a lot of difficulties with a straight-set win coming up for the American player.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Paul to win in straight sets: 8/11
