With the tennis calendar facing multiple challenges across the board because of the pandemic, the ATP has done well to introduce four new tournaments this year and one of them is the Astana Open. This first edition of the ATP Astana, also called the Nur-Sultan Open, will be held in Kazakhstan in the month of October. The Astana Open has been give the license for one year to organise a tournament as a part of the ATP 250, and some of the top players like Benoit Paire can be expected to take part in this.

28 players will make it to the main draw while qualifiers will be held before the start of the first round to decide on the rest of the players. There will also be a doubles draw.

2020 ATP Astana Open Schedule & Dates

The Astana Open will be one of the last tournaments to be played in 2020 and will begin with its first round matches on October 26. The competition will go on till November 1, when the men’s singles final will be held.

The singles main draw will consist of 28 players, of which 19 will get a direct entry into the main draw. Three wild-cards will also be awarded, two players with special exempt rankings will make it to the first round as well while the remaining four will come through the qualifying route.

Other than Benoit Paire, who is the top seed, the player list for Astana Open also has Miomir Kecmanovic, who recently won the Kitzbuhel Open and another Frenchman Adrian Mannarino, who will be the third seed.

John Millman will hope he can push on deeper into the tournament as the fourth seed and he will be joined by Tennys Sandgren, Alexander Bublik, Tommy Paul and Jordan Thompson in the lineup.

What Happened at the 2019 ATP Nur-Sultan Open?

Since this is the first season of the Nur-Sultan Open there are no previous winners. However, a Challenger tournament by the name of the President’s Cup or the Astana Challenger has been played since 2007 and Evgenvy Donskoy had won the previous edition by beating Sebastian Korda in the final.
