This tournament made its return to the ATP circuit in 2020 following a hiatus of six years and was one of the last tournaments played before the tour was suspended because of the pandemic.
It was earlier played Vina del Mar between 2012 and 2014, for two years between 2010-11 in Santiago, between 2001-09 in Vina del Mar and again in Santiago between 1993 and 2000.

What Happened at the 2022 ATP Santiago Open?
Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild went on to lift the Chile Open title in 2020, also in the process clinching his maiden ATP tournament win.
He had to overcome the in-form Casper Ruud in the final, winning 7–5, 4–6, 6–3.
Seyboth Wild had earlier been aided by the retirement of the top seeded Cristian Garin in the quarterfinal, while Ruud defeated the third seeded Albert Ramos Vinolas in the semifinal to make it to the title-decider.
